Written By: Dwight Kilgore
September has past, and the ever popular Oktoberfest in Germany has gone with it. Though many people may find this to be sad news, board game aficionados all over the world are gearing up for their own festival. Starting only ten days later and 6 hours away the Internationale Spieltage kicks off in Essen Germany. This lesser known festival is the epicenter of the board game universe and has been rapidly growing in the past few years. It continues to debut intriguing and thrilling new games, that make their way across the pond and onto your game table.
Spieltage is a German term meaning Gamedays. This three day festival is often called Essen for the city where it began in 1983. It is still located in Essen and takes place at the local Fairgrounds. Spieltage began with only 12 vendors and about 5000 visitors. Today it hosts over 1000 vendors from 50 countries and is visited by about 160,000 gamers from all over the world. Spieltage has showed continued growth and continues to lure more gamers from the digital gaming world each year.
Every year newly created games debut at this festival. Several new arrivals from Spieltage in 2015 include Codenames and Pandemic Legacy. Codenames is a Tutor Games favorite and winner of the best new game at 2015’s Spieltage. If you are looking for a new adventure to bring to your game night Tutor Games has your back with a vigilant eye on Spieltage 2016. We will be looking for the winners in this years competition, and runners up. Be sure to stay in touch with Spieltage and Tutor Games for your next great board game.
